A LONG OVERDUE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF CULTURAL APPROPRIATION

I will no longer be using the word “igloo” in the title or as a description for my sound installation, SQUEEEQUE. It will herein forth be known as SQUEEEQUE-SPEAKERDOME. As I am a settler on unceded indigenous territory and have no blood connection to the Inuit, I acknowledge that to use the word “igloo” to describe or name an artwork of my making is appropriative and frankly racist. I am ashamed and truly sorry that it has taken me this long to take these steps. I will endeavor to contact every organization and curator who has presented this work to make the necessary corrections. I realize that this acknowledgement is the smallest gesture I can make to atone for any unintended but very real damage my appropriation may have caused.
