MOSQUITO

A commission for Toronto gallery The Power Plant‘s Powerhouse Ball, MOSQUITO draws its name from Federico Fellini’s description of the photographer character in his film La Dolce Vita. Fellini apparently chose the name from an Italian dialect word that suggests an annoying sound, like the buzz of a mosquito. The installation consisted of a tower of motion-sensor lights and speakers playing a soundtrack that melded manipulated siren sounds with the roar of a crowd of paparazzi at the Cannes film festival. Meant as a sly wink to the “see and be seen”-ness of the event, MOSQUITO offers an ironic welcome to every guest.
